On the road to Jodhpur

Wednesday - December 31, 1997

Our drive from Udaipur to Jodhpur involved a stop at one of the most important Jain temples in India. The Chaumukha ("Four-Faced") Temple is a massive marble structure dedicated to Lord Adinath.

The temple contains 29 halls supported by 1444 pillars. No two of the pillars are the same. For a small fee we were allowed to photograph anything inside the temple other than the deities themselves.

The carvings were remarkable in their complexity.
