We were the only non-Indians at this event. Everyone was having a great time, dancing, singing, and watching puppet shows.
Kathleen was treated to a head and back massage. Boy was she surprised when this fellow ended the massage by hitting her quite hard on the back. It sure loosened up the congestion.
I tried my hand at ringing the ceremonial gong. My first attempt was a bit soft
so I gave it a second try. Here is an audio recording of that momentous event.
The recording is a QuickTime 3.0 File (78 K).
After our adventures in the carnival area, we moved inside for a simple dinner of vegetarian food. The meal was served on a tray made of leaves known as a Thali containing several small katori bowls. The food included dhal (lentils), potatoes, carrots, beans, cauliflower, chillies, onions, tamarind, coconut, and mint. The bread (papad or chapati) doubles as your only eating utensil. The borrowed hats completed this fun and authentic Indian dining experience.
We slept very well that night. The next day we began the adventure of shopping in Jaipur.
