Metro and Eiffel

On Tuesday, June 8 we began the day on the Metro where we encountered musicians taking advantage of the rich acoustics of the underground tiled walls.

I have prepared an audio recording (351 kilobytes)in QuickTime format for you to download and enjoy. This recording is long so you may wish to continue reading this page as you listen.

Next we went shopping at Fauchon, a gourmet food shop, where we purchased gifts for family and friends. We also had a nice brunch at the Fauchon cafe. Kathleen particularly enjoyed the food shopping in France.

After food shopping we took the Metro to see the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower was created in five months by Gustave Eiffel for the Universal Exhibition of 1889. It is composed of a lattice of girders and is 1000 feet high. Click the button below to view a landscape photo of the Eiffel Tower.

At the base of the Eiffel Tower there was an unusual street performer dressed as an industrial robot. He amused the crowd with comical poses and body language.

In the evening we attended a concert of organ and choral music by César Franck and Johannes Brahms given at the Notre Dame Cathedral. I made two short audio recordings in QuickTime format to illustrate the nice acoustics of the cathedral.
