Thursday, June 3 was our day for windmills and wooden shoes. We took one of those typical bus tours to see the windmills of Zaanse Schans. On the way there we learned about the polders created by dredging canals to reclaim land from the sea. Click the button below to view a panoramic photograph of windmills on a polder.
The Zaanse Schans complex also includes a wooden shoe shop where demonstrations of traditional wooden shoemaking take place.
Kathleen and I wanted to buy some wooden shoes but all the ones we tried on were too large.
