Bavarian Holiday

On Friday, May 28, 1999 Kathleen and I departed Philadelphia for a trip to Munich, Amsterdam, and Paris. We flew first to Munich, a city in the Bavarian section of Germany. We arrived on Saturday morning May 29, and we were met by our good friend, Kim. She, her husband, Key (pronounced "Kay"), and her son Raphael were our hosts and tour guides during our stay in Bavaria. Kim brought us to their lovely home and prepared a typical Bavarian lunch with pretzels, mustard, and bratworst. The main meal in Germany is lunch so we were quite full afterwards. Kim and Key were the most gracious of hosts and Kathleen and I hope to return the favor the next time they visit the Philadelphia area. Their son Raphael is terribly charming. He speaks English to his mother and German to his father. He has a great sense of humor and I enjoyed many silly hours together with him. I made a recording of him introducing himself and prepared a file (13 kilobytes) in QuickTime format. Click the button below and the sound file will load in a separate small window.

After lunch we took a brief nap to overcome jet lag. Then the five of us went for a lovely boat ride on a nearby lake. The water level was unusually high due to weeks of rain that preceded our arrival in Bavaria. Raphael did a fine job piloting the boat and we enjoyed the view and the company. The countryside is very beautiful in Bavaria. Click the button below to view a panoramic photograph of the Bavarian countryside.

That evening I had a great time with Raphael. I bought him the KidPix CDROM for his Power Macintosh clone and we had a lot of fun creating graphics, animations, and sounds.
