Carl Stamitz was the son of Johann Stamitz, the man who founded the Mannheim school of pre-classical symphonists. Carl played violin, viola and viola d'amore. He worked in the Mannheim court orchestra as second violinist from 1762-1770. He traveled widely but was never a financial success. After his death in 1801, his possessions were auctioned to pay his creditors. See the link below for a complete biography.
