Gerhard Stäbler is known for his collaborative, political, and conceptual works as well as for his traditionally notated scores; he has also been active internationally as an organizer of concerts and workshops. He has been composer-in-residence or given classes at Northwestern University, the Moscow State Conservatory, the Gaudeamus Foundation, the Sonorities Festival (Belfast), and the Internationale Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, among others.
