Other Information:
Cipriano de Rore was a Flemish composer who traveled widely and worked in several capacities at St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. He was probably a student of Adriaan Willaert. His music influenced the work of Andrea Gabrieli.
Many sources cite Mechlin as the birth place of Rore. Current research, however, has established his birthplace as Ronse (Renaix), a town in Flanders right on the linguistic boundary between the French- and Flemish-speaking areas. It is likely he born to a wealthy family.
