Other Information:
After having visited there as a child, Mauldin moved to New Mexico in 1971 for "the space, the light and the timelessness." He was named Composer of the Year in a 1980 nationwide competition sponsored by the Music Teachers National Association for "Voices From Chaco: Concertino for Piano and Woodwind Quintet."

"Introduction of the Child to the Cosmos", for mixed chorus and piano, won first place in a national competition sponsored by Ithaca College and Theodore Presser. "Fajada Butte: An Epiphany", a symphonic movement commissioned and recorded by the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, was performed by the National Repertory Orchestra at the 20th Anniversary celebration concert of the National Endowment for the Arts at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1985.

Mauldin's arrangement of "Simple Gifts" for boys' choir and piano has sold thousands of copies in the USA, Europe and Australia. His "Birds in Winter: Six Preludes for Harp" was a required work for the USA International Harp Competition in 1998.

Mauldin served for seven years as Musical Director of the Albuquerque Boy Choir (of which his two sons are alumni), during which time it grew to include three choirs that tour, record and proceed through a rigorous musicianship program. He is an outspoken advocate for the rights of children and has mentored many young people in the arts.
