- Prolific German lutenist and composer.
- His father, younger brother, and younger sister were also lutenists.
- Studied with Silvius Leopold Weiss.
- After 1735 he is known to have been at the Kapelle of Count Heinrich von BrĂ¼l.
- Visited Berlin in 1737
- Visited J. S. Bach in Leipzig in summer of 1739 in the company of Silvius Weiss and W. F. Bach.
- Moved to Leipzig in 1763 and performed until 1769.
- He was in demand for his skill in accompanying recitative on the theorbo.
- He wrote a great deal of music but little survived.
